iOMe Challenge has a winner!!

Posted on Friday, January 29, 2010 in COMMUNITY EVENTS, FROM THE PRESIDENT

A few months ago, I wrote about a contest crafted by De Pere Area Chamber member PAi challenging colleges to create teams to find solutions around the problem of the future of the Social Security system in the US.

The winners have been selected and another De Pere Area Chamber member (and area jewel), St. Norbert College received honorable mention.  Nicely done SNC students!

A team of students from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Mich., has been chosen as the winner of the inaugural iOMe Challenge.

The iOMe Challenge asked college and university students across the country to create an essay and a video focusing on what life will be like in retirement 40 years from now if our current experience and practices remained the same.  And potentially, if any changes should be considered in policy and in how our society prepares for retirement.

The entries were judged by a Blue Ribbon panel for originality, content, style, economic soundness, educational value and accessibility to young Americans.

The first step in problem-solving is acknowledging the problem and the second is opening your mind to possibilities – that is what this challenge did.

Congratulations to all the participants and to PAi for taking this on!
