Lieutenant Governor Barbara Lawton focuses her efforts as lieutenant governor on economic development, putting people to work through strategic investments in a creative workforce and the green economy. Economic development: good, family-supporting jobs for our hardworking people, is my top priority, says Lt. Gov. Lawton.
As the Chair of the National Lieutenant Governors Association (NLGA), Barbara traveled to Washington D.C. on March 11 & 12th to lead a series of high-level meetings with senior Obama Administration officials and the nation's top economists. Job creation, economic development, transportation funding, opportunities for Wisconsin schools in the stimulus bill, health care plans, and Medicaid were top discussion items. She will bring the insight and information gained from those meetings to our membership.
Barbara and her family lived in the Green Bay area for over 30 years. As a founder of the Greater Green Bay Area Community Foundation and the Multicultural Center, as an advisor to Entrepreneurs of Color, in service on various Boards, including that of the Northeast Wisconsin Technical College Foundation, and as a consultant to businesses expanding internationally, she is firmly grounded in community. Her thinking and action on the important issues of the day reflect her confidence in the people as this state's greatest resource.
